POLYESTER YARN, DTY
Polyester (also know as Polyether) is a group of polymers having the ester functional group in the main chain. Most often and typically, when "polyester" term is referred to, it comes to PET or polyethylene terephthalate. PET. Polyesters can be of natural occurrence as well as obtained via chemical synthesis.
Polyester is a synthetic polymer usually produced by reaction of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) or its dimethyl ester - dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) with monoethylene glycol (MEG).
Polyester is one of the most common polymers. The main PET use is for textile polyester yarn (~70 to 80% of usage), followed by bottle polyester resin, film polyester mainly for packaging and specialty polyesters for engineering plastics.
Polyester yarn (PE yarn) for textile applications is produced by direct spinning from reaction mass of PTA with MEG. PE yarn can also be made by spinning of PET Chips obtained from MEG and PTA.
Textile polyester yarn is divided into Filament Yarn such as Partially Oriented Yarn (POY), Polyester Drawn Textured Yarn (DTY), Polyester Fully Drawn Yarn (FDY), Polyester Spun Yarn (PSY), Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF), etc..
Polyester Drawn Textured Yarn, or Polyester DTY, is obtained when Polyester POY is simultaneously twisted & drawn. DTY yarn is mainly used in weaving & knitting of fabrics for making clothes, home furnishings, seat covers, bags and many other uses. DTY yarn can be in Semi Dull or Bright or Trilobal Bright depending upon the type of sections of filaments.
DTY yarn is produced with different number of Intermingle points:
Non-Intermingle (NIM) with 0 - 10 knots per meter;
Semi-Intermingle (SIM) having 40 - 50 knots per meter;
and High-Intermingle (HIM) with as many as 100 - 120 knots per meter.
Among the variety of available colors of polyester yarn DTY, Black and White Semi Dull yarn DTY is most often used for the production of socks and other similar textile items.

The yarn is delivered in cones (bobbins) packed in carton boxes.
