PENTAERYTHRITOL
Pentaerythritol (pentaerythritol, monopentaeritritol) - is a monotropic tetravalent alcohol.
98% Pentaerythritol is a white crystalline powder, moderately hygroscopic; it has a sweet taste, no odor and low solubility in water.
Pentaerythritol is prepared by reacting formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in alkaline medium, followed by a disproportionation known as Cannizzaro reaction.
Molecular formula: C5H12O4
Molecular Weight: 136.15
CAS Number: 115-77-5
Pentaerythritol is used as a feedstock for the production of paints based on alkyd resins; for synthetic and semi-synthetic oils and additives for oils. Also, pentaerythritol may as well be used to manufacture products based on natural resins, self-extinguishing materials, antioxidants, PVC stabilizers, etc.
